The Kaohsiung City Government has deployed Brocade’s FastIron Edge X Series of high-performance data center-class switches with IPv6 support for its education network expansion project. The network will support a number of advanced applications, including voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) for primary and secondary schools so that students and teaching faculty can interact and communicate anytime, anywhere on campus, without being confined to a classroom.
In addition to delivering high performance, energy efficient reliability and cost- effective metro access, the city government was looking for network solutions to enable support for low-latency applications, such as VoIP, mission-critical applications like CRM and ERP and high-volume network traffic situations.
The flexibility to deploy future services over a wireless network anywhere to any of their schools and campuses were also key considerations for this project.
“In order to educate our students to their fullest capacity, we are investing to upgrade the current network infrastructure within the campus as well as intra-campus to facilitate learning between institutions. Brocade’s solution protects our investment as it is able to scale according to the expansion rate of each institution," said Fang-Pai Lin, Information Education Center, Education Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government.
“The City Government has selected Brocade to help put a blueprint for next generation education network that is secured, energy efficient and capable of managing high-volume network traffic in and around the campus," aaid Edward Joe, regional manager, Brocade Taiwan, HK and Macau. “It will not only free lecturers and teachers from the classroom but also encourage student interaction wirelessly. We are excited to be a part of this initiative."
