South Korean broadband provider SK broadband is oiling up its pipes, expanding its network capacity to accomodate an expected surge in demand for multimedia services by using Datacraft's expertise in network implementations.
Datacraft completed a network expansion project for SK broadband during summer of 2009, to enable a host of new IP-based multimedia services for both SK Telecom's corporate and residential customers.
“We have seen the use of multimedia applications, particularly IPTV skyrocket towards the end of last year," said a spokesperson for SK broadband. “To cater for this upsurge in demand, as well as to retain the quality of service for our existing customers, we needed to increase our network capacity immediately."
Datacraft designed a new architecture to support an improved IP backbone over the four POP hubs – Kangbuk, Kangnam, Seobu and Dongbu – from which the 32 POPs branched out over the country. This served as one exclusive network to secure the quality and stability needed for real-time broadcasts. In addition, poorly performing switches were replaced to enhance network efficiency.
