China-based Huishang Bank has selected Teradata to build its enterprise data warehouse, said Teradata Thursday.

According to Teradata, the bank will use the data warehouse to address regulatory requirements in operations, risk management, and capital.

Huishang is China’s first joint-stock commercial bank originating from the restructuring of city commercial banks and urban credit cooperatives, said Teradata. Founded in December 28, 2005, Huishang Bank has a total of 13 branches, 3 directly-managed sub-branches, and 160 banking institutions or outlets. The Bank now employs nearly 3,800 employees, and its capital totals over RMB
8.1 billion

The Bank will integrate customer, operations and financial data from its major business systems into a centralized Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse, Teradata noted, adding that Huishang chose an active EDW to provide a single view of the business, which can be leveraged to provide enterprise intelligence for enhanced operations and management.

Once implemented, the data warehouse will support existing, as well as future applications throughout the Bank. In addition, it will provide timely and accurate reporting for compliance with the 1104 regulations from the China Banking Regulatory Commission, Teradata said.

"We are honoured to join the largest IT infrastructure project undertaken by Huishang Bank this year. This is the beginning of a strategic partnership between Teradata and China’s city commercial banks," said Simon Yang, vice president of Teradata in the greater China area.

The first phase of the data warehouse project will deploy Teradata's Enterprise Data Warehouse and critical applications, said Teradata. The total capacity of the initial system will be 12 terabytes of data.

Teradata said its professional services arm will help the Bank to implement the Teradata Financial Services Logical Data Model, a physical data model customized for the Bank, and a metadata management solution for all data stored in the systems.  In addition, the Teradata BAR (backup, archive and recover) tools will be deployed, the vendor added.

The second phase will integrate additional business unit data and applications, Teradata noted.
