Malaysia startup rules IBM SmartCamp ASEAN 2013

Pembinaan TMC Sistem from Malaysia won this year’s IBM SmartCamp ASEAN, held in Kuala Lumpur to identify and support outstanding early stage startups developing innovative in healthcare, energy, environment, security and education.

TMC provides a cloud-based early warning system to predict landslides, which uses sensors and can provide up to 2-mm accuracy of possible landslides.

Gametize of Singapore won the people's choice award at the finals for a platform that uses websites, as well as social and mobile applications to engage target audiences with challenges and prize rewards.

Other startup participants include ConnectedHealth, also from Singapore, with its eHealth platform product; Peritus Solutions from Malaysia with its mobile solution that simplifies medical service; BlueBox Technology from Thailand with its cloud-based solution that allows users to setup their own field-sensor system for collecting and analyzing data; and WegenTech from Philippines with its wind turbine technology for improving the sustainability and affordability of electricity.

TMC will advance to the regional SmartCamp semi-finals in Turkey this month, for the qualifying round for the SmartCamp Global Finals, which will be held in the United States in February 2014.

Previous SmartCamp participants have gone on to generate more than $115 million in venture capital/angel funding following their SmartCamp appearance.
